Doc Miami Rocks MOMz Hot ROCKs!

Thank you Doc Miami for presenting MOMz Hot ROCKs with The Most Entertaining film award of this year's festival.
The DocMiami International Film Festival, showcased three days of cutting edge documentary filmmakers and three nights of outstanding music concerts, in a celebration of documentary filmmaking at a global level nestled in sunny South Florida. The festival brought together emerging documentary filmmakers, students’ grades 6-12, as well as film and music enthusiasts in a truly bohemian, one-of-a-kind event. DocMiami’s music concerts benefit the non-profit, Brick by Brick for Tanzania, where performers such as: Melton Mustafa, Tito Puente, Jr., Fito Espinola and others have contributed their talents to assist school children in Tanzania whom are combating not only poverty but also a drought, hunger and the AIDS crisis.

Breakaway International breaks out in Berlin 2010

Los Angeles: Industry veteran Mark Austin has announced that he will launch his new boutique international sales company, Breakaway Media, at the Berlin Film Festival and European Film Market in February. Austin, who was previously Head of Sales at Capitol Films/TH!NK Film International and Director of Distribution for Intermedia Film, has quietly been constructing the building blocks of the company and has secured financing from an undisclosed international financier.

The first film from Breakaway Media is PASSENGER SIDE, written and directed by Matthew Bissonnette (WHO LOVES THE SUN), starring Adam Scott (LEAP YEAR), and featuring a killer soundtrack with songs by Leonard Cohen, Dinosaur Jr., Evan Dando and Wilco. Following critically acclaimed screenings at the Toronto International Film Festival, Los Angeles Film Festival and London Film Festival, PASSENGER SIDE has been touted as “a thinking man’s Judd Apatow flick” by LA Weekly and “a poignant portrait of sibling rivalry and affection” by The Hollywood Reporter. PASSENGER SIDE has recently been named one of Canada’s Top Ten films of 2009 by the Toronto International Film Festival, and both the film’s producer Corey Marr and Bissonnette were selected this summer to participate in the Los Angeles Film Festival Fast Track program, which recognizes up and coming filmmakers on the rise. PASSENGER SIDE will screen at EFM on Feb. 13 and 15.

Also on Breakaway Media’s inaugural slate of films are Mike McCarthy’s comic book-based film noir CIGARETTE GIRL, which was singled out by The Hollywood Reporter as one of 5 Best Bets at the 2009 Comic-Con (screening Feb. 14 at EFM); Tony Elwood’s award winning horror film COLD STORAGE; and Kate Perotti’s hilarious music documentary MOMZ HOT ROCKS.

Said company founder and President Mark Austin, “I am excited to bring Breakaway Media and our slate to the EFM. Moving forward, by working with key agencies and producers, I will be able to package films in the budget range of $2 million - $10 million and to provide a steady stream of quality projects to the international marketplace.”

Lenore Rabatin did a lovely review and article on MOMz Hot ROCKs.
The site features a different artist every week this one was about developing one's inner ROCK STAR. Keep on the lookout of what promises to be a gaggle of laundry room bands from Minneapolis. Prince beware.

MOMz Hot ROCKs Salutes One Hot Mama; Grace Jones Rules

What a torrent of power, grace, beauty and humour, Ms. Grace Jones ruled the Hollywood Bowl last Sunday July 26, 2009. She looked beyond fabulous, looking more like an Olympic Athlete than anything else.

And what a surprise when she introduced her son! He, a grown man, was playing percussion on stage with the band. How cool is that. She and Yoko would make a great double bill in some wild space like the Tate Modern...

The show was a mix of a few classics, plus La Vie en Rose and new tracks from her soon to be released in the US album, "Hurricane." The LA crowd was fun as downloads have obviously made there way across the pond to our ears enabling several sing-a-longs. (lame wording for a great moments in music)

She makes the future look brighter for all of us.
